Recording Information Notification (RIN) Standard

On Oct. 10th, 2016, DDEX announced the completion of the long-awaited Recording Information Notification standard (RIN), addressing the need to restore sound recording metadata (credits, liner notes, artwork) in the age of digital distribution..

Avid Pro Tools® with Sound Credit Tracker Plug-in
Avid Pro Tools®
& Sound Credit Tracker Plug-in

Sound Credit Tracker by Soundways, is a DAW plug-in that implements the RIN standard and allows users to enter and track performer and recording credits as they happen. Using the DDEX standard, the plug-in stores the metadata in a small, .RIN XML file, to be included and passed along with the project session files.

Ten years in the making, the RIN format comprises an XML file that standardizes the metadata describing all aspects of a recording project and sound recording. RIN is designed for Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) manufacturers to enable their users to capture and store essential metadata in a standard form at the point of creation of a musical work and/or sound recording.

Maureen Droney, Managing Director at The Recording Academy Producers & Engineers Wing (and a key member of the RIN Working Group) stated “RIN will facilitate crediting, ensuring that performers, producers, recording engineers are properly identified and paid for their contributions.”

Rublon — Beautiful Two-Factor Authentication for WordPress

Rublon — Invisible Two-Factor Authentication
Rublon — Invisible Two-Factor Authentication

I’ve been incorporating two-factor authentication wherever I can in my digital life, and mobile apps like Google Authenticator can make it a snap to implement, especially with easy QR code verification. But until now I hadn’t found a solution I liked for WordPress, having tried a number of different plug-ins, only to later uninstall. Enter Rublon, a mobile authentication app I saw reviewed (along with several other apps) on the Torque website, by contributor Jay Hoffmann.  The Rublon app and its WordPress plug-in work perfectly for my purposes, easy to implement and very similar feel to the Google Authenticator process. It’s an additional security layer on top of your existing log in authentication, and with the Trusted Devices feature, you only need to set it up once in any given Web browser, and you can forget it… highly recommend.

Rent Plug-Ins at Avid Store

Avid Store | Pro Tools Plug-Ins
Avid Store | Pro Tools Plug-Ins

I just noticed that you can rent some of the Pro Tools® plug-ins at the Avid Store, instead of purchasing them. Impact and SoundReplacer caught my eye (neither of which I own), each available to rent for either 7 days ($19) or 31 days ($49)… that’s not too bad.
