This looks very cool, self-publishing to Kindle… “In addition to having your books available for purchase on Kindle devices and on Kindle apps for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, PC, Mac, Blackberry, Android-based devices, and Windows Phone 7, you also have the opportunity to participate in the 70% royalty program and can specify pricing in US Dollars, Pounds Sterling, or Euros. We caught the Mon. AUG 1st show at 9:30 Club, and the Björk cover was a standout… here’s some fairly good video and audio footage from the start of their tour, Riverside Theater, Milwaukee 7/23/11, from YouTube user dephot

Herschel Detects Molecular Oxygen in the Orion Nebula

Credit: ESA/NASA/JPL-Caltech

Herschel has found the first robust evidence of molecular oxygen in the Orion Nebula. The observed abundance is ten times larger than indicated by previous observations of other molecular clouds, but is still well below theoretical expectations. The results suggest that, in special circumstances, the heat from newborn stars can liberate oxygen frozen out on dust grains, thus increasing the amount of molecular oxygen able to form in warm, dense gas clouds…

NPR Will Webcast Tue. 9:30 Club Bon Iver Show

Bon Iver self-titled

I‘m very psyched to be going to tonight’s (Mon AUG 1st) Bon Iver show at 9:30 Club (face-value Craigslist tickets no less)… and just learned that tomorrow (Tue AUG 2nd) night’s show will also be webcast by NPR Music, very cool. Haven’t watched a webcast on NPR yet, looking forward to checking it out.

Trying Google+

I‘ve been trying out Google+ for a few days… a little confusing to figure out what to do, but seems very cool.  The group video conferencing feature “Hangouts” seems to me like it will be huge…

Fermilab Scientists Discover New Particle – Forbes

Fermilab

“Scientists at Fermilab have announced the discovery of a new particle – the neutral combination of a strange quark, an up quark and a bottom quark, which has been dubbed Xi-sub-b for now. It’s a neutral particle, making it a cousin to the neutron (which is comprised of one up quark and two down quarks). The existence of this particle is predicted by current ideas in physics, but…”

Google+ iPhone App

I installed the Google+ iPhone app moments ago… it was available as a download from the iTunes App Store on computer, but isn’t showing up yet as downloadable directly to the iPhone; still had to perform a sync to get it installed on the device…
